Akron Woman Killed in One-Vehicle Crash
An Akron woman was killed in a one-vehicle accident Friday night.
Dexter Shoates, 40, of Longview Avenue was traveling in a 1996 Cadillac Deville on West Thornton Street when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole at Norka Avenue around 7 p.m.
A passenger in the vehicle, Bernice Townsend, 48, of April Court, had to be extracted from the vehicle and was taken to Akron General Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead later.
Shoates also was taken to AGMC where he was treated for non life-threatening injuries.
The accident is under investigation.
