Band Instructor Killed and Students Injured in Bus Accident
An Idaho band instructor was killed Saturday when a school bus carrying her and her students lost control and crashed.
The award-winning American Fork High School band was on their way home from a competition when their bus driver, suffering from a medical condition, lost control. 33-year-old Heather Christensen, the band instructor, attempted to gain control of the bus as it went off the side of the road and rolled.
Christensen was thrown from the bus and killed in the accident. Two students were airlifted to a Pocatello hospital to receive treatment for their serious injuries. Twelve other seriously injured students were transported by medical crews to a hospital. Thirty more students had minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital.
Police are conducting a full investigation into the accident.
The band had achieved 1st place at the Pocatello competition before being involved in the tragic accident.
