A teenaged girl attempted to ride her bicycle across Interstate 20 in Bossier City, Louisiana, early Tuesday morning, said police.

The unidentified 13-year-old cyclist was struck by a westbound Ford Taurus just after 7 a.m. when she unsuccessfully attempted to cross the interstate in front of the Louisiana state police Troop G headquarters.

When police and medics arrived at the scene of the accident, the girl was responsive and was transported to LSU Hospital in Shreveport with unspecified injuries, according to police spokesman Mark Natale.

The girl was crossing the interstate from the south to the north, and the Taurus, driven by an unidentified male driver, was in the outside travel lane, Natale stated. The driver told police that he was driving normally when a cyclist suddenly appeared unexpectedly in front of his vehicle. The car suffered frontal damage and its windshield was shattered. The driver suffered from minor injuries, Natale said.
