California Teen Runs Red Light and Kills Family of 4
A California family of four was killed Saturday when a teenager smashed into their minivan after hitting another car and running a red light.
The 19-year-old driver, Steven Culbertson, was in his Mini Cooper near Novato when he ran into a stopped car then flew through a red light and came to a stop after crashing into a van. The Sonoma family consisting of Johnathan Maloney, 45, Susan Maloney, 42, Aiden, 8, and Grace, 5, were immediately killed upon impact.
Medical crews arrived on the scene and transported three victims from the stopped car that was hit to a local hospital for treatment.
Police reported Culbertson to have been driving somewhere between 70 and 90 miles per hour at the time of the accident. The minivan was almost indistinguishable.
Culbertson was also transported to a hospital for life-threatening injuries.
An ongoing investigation is being conducting by the authorities.
