While competing in a boat race called the Chicago-to-Mackinac race, 51-year-old Mark Morley and 41-year-old Suzanne Bickel got caught in a storm with powerful winds causing their boat to collapse. Another six people were in trouble, but were safely picked up by a nearby boat.

The Chicago Yacht Club along with the authorities is fully investigating the fatal accident. The chairman of the race committee, Greg Freeman, declared that the club will be gathering to look into the unfortunate matter. The club will be looking for ways to improve the rules and safety guidelines to prevent more accidents.

A 26-year-old Essex man along with another man were fishing on Vermont’s Arrowhead Lake when the engine on their boat died. The two attempted to make it back to shore by paddling when the Essex man fell out and drifted away. Police believe he was taken down stream.

The man remaining in the boat was eventually saved by firefighters.

The authorities are continuing their search in the areas below the dam at the lake.

Deputy Mike Johnson, 60, of the Burke County sheriff’s department was going down the Savannah River when he crashed into a log. The accident caused Johnson to be ejected from the boat.

According to the police, John was drug to shore by passersby who saw the incident. They were unable to revive him.

It was later discovered through medical testing that the deputy underwent a heart attack.

The 34-year-old state wildlife officer, Billy Giles, let go of the steering wheel of a 16-foot boat in order to hold onto his hat when it jolted and he fell off.

The boat spun around and Giles was hit by the propeller after being pulled under the water.

The craft went up onto shore and Giles made it to a boat ramp where he could find help.

The officer was rushed to Gainesville hospital, where he remains after undergoing surgery.

While traveling at a fast speed the 18 foot power boat crashed into an embankment.

Jay Smith, 44, was unable to survive the injuries he suffered in the crash.

One woman and two male passengers were rushed to local hospitals for treatment.

Their names have not yet been released. One man has been released from care, and the other remains hospitalized.

An update on the woman’s condition has not been reported.

Police are unsure, at this time, who was driving the boat.

They are conducting a full investigation into the fatal accident.

Evidence was discovered leading police to believe that alcohol may have been a factor.

Two boats collided causing one of them to be ejected from Anclote River and onto an embankment.

59-year-old Michael Billiris was unable to survive the deadly impact.

A passenger on Billiris’s boat along with three people on the other suffered minor injuries.

Pasco County police are conducting a full investigation into the fatal accident.

During a Christmas boat parade a 33-foot long Coast Guard boat smashed into another boat for reasons that have yet to be determined.

Medical crews rushed a young boy and five other seriously injured passengers to a local hospital. The 8-year-old boy was pronounced dead soon after arriving.

The five people aboard the Coast Guard boat were uninjured.

An investigation is still being conducted to discover the cause of the fatal boat accident.

Jeffrey Harbison, along with five other workers, was working on a project on the Hudson River. The boat Harbison and another worker, Thomas Kutys, were on capsized before going over a dam.

Medical crews rushed Harbison to a local hospital after being in 38 degree water for 30 minutes. The contractor was later pronounced dead due to cold water drowning.

Kutys survived and was later released from the hospital.

Police are conducting an investigation into the incident. Fire rescue officials believe the boat was possibly experiencing some mechanical problems

Two children were injured Sunday when a boat caught fire on a New Hampshire river.

Another local boatman saw the flames and picked up the two adults and two kids that were trapped.

Fire fighters were able to extinguish the fire within a half hour. A medical crew arrived and transported the victims to a local hospital. The two children sustained minor injuries.

There is ongoing investigation by the New Hampshire Marine Patrol to figure out the cause of the boat fire.

Five people were injured Tuesday when a three-car pileup occurred after a bail of hay fell off of a truck while a crew was unloading them.

A forklift was being used to lift half-ton sized bales of hay from a semi-truck on a Utah Highway. One of the bales fell onto the road and was left there for over an hour. The crew put up an orange flag as a way to direct the traffic around the hay.

A mother driving an SUV, with children, swerved around the hay and hit an on-coming Jeep. The Jeep went off the road and was then hit by a Chevy Malibu. Emergency medical services crews arrived on the scene and transported the Jeep’s driver and the SUV passengers to a local hospital.

There were six people injured in total, but only five were taken to the hospital. Whether the driver of the Malibu was hurt or not is unknown.

The Salt Lake County Accident Team along with the District Attorney’s Office is going to conduct an investigation in order to find out if any charges should be filed.
