CHP Officer Injured in Accident on Interstate 5

A CHP officer suffered injuries when he was struck by a vehicle as he was parked on Interstate 5 in Cottonwood in Shasta County Friday afternoon.

Officer Dwight Havens was parked on the shoulder of Interstate 5 at Gas Point Road responding to a previous collision when a driver on a cell phone rear-ended another vehicle at about 4:30 p.m. Friday. The collision pushed the second vehicle into the parked patrol vehicle Havens was in.

Havens was airlifted to Mercy Medical Center with minor to moderate injuries.
