Construction Worker Crushed By 18-Wheeler

A construction worker was killed when he was crushed beneath an 18-wheeler he was attempting to free from the mud at Frederick Douglass Avenue in Monks Corner, South Carolina Wednesday morning.

The man, whose identity has not been released pending family notification, was attempting to free a tractor-trailer carrying concrete pipes from the mud by hooking a chain from the trailer to a bulldozer

The driver of the trailer did not see the man behind it and reversed the truck. The man was run over and as pronounced dead at the scene.

Berkeley County Coroner Glenn Rhoad said the accident happened just after 8 a.m. Wednesday.

After investigating the incident, the death has been ruled accidental.
