Construction Worker Killed in Power Saw Accident
A construction worker was killed in a power saw accident while building a water pump station for the city of New Richmond.
Eugene Hakes, 33, of Cadott, an employee of A-1 Excavating for 5 years, was in a trench cutting a water pipe when the large, gasoline-powered cut-saw kicked back and slashed his throat at about 8:30 a.m.
No one witnessed the accident, but when coworkers saw Hakes holding his throat they called 911.
Hakes was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Terry Pecha, the president of A-1 Excavating said this incident was the first fatal accident in company history.
The accident is under investigation.
