Denver Nuggets Guard J.R. Smith Gets Jail Time For Fatal Crash

Denver Nuggets guard J.R. Smith was sentenced to 30 days in jail for his involvement in an accident that resulted in the death of a friend and two others injured.

Smith, 23, pleaded guilty to reckless driving when he failed to stop at a stop sign and struck another vehicle in June 2007. Smith’s friend, Andre Bell, 21, was killed in the accident. Smith, a passenger in his vehicle, and a female driver of the other vehicle also suffered injuries.

On Tuesday, Judge Debra Gelson of the Millstone Municipal Court in New Jersey sentenced Smith to 90 days with 60 days suspended. He is also ordered to perform 500 hours of community service in hospitals with sick children.
