Driver Charged in Bicycle Accident, Family is Suing

An 83-year-old woman was cited by the Baltimore Police for an accident in which she crashed into a bicyclist causing him serious injuries.

After striking a 20-year-old student Nathan Krasnopoler, the driver Jeannette Walke is facing citations for failing to yield the right of way to a cyclist that was in a bike lane and also negligent driving.

The State Attorney’s Office stated that the charges were deemed appropriate in this situation as what happened was an actual accident and not intentional. The charge of manslaughter could have been brought against her, but was not.

The family of the bicyclist is suing Walke for the amount of $10 million.

More and more cities are becoming bicycle friendly. All drivers need to be aware of where the bicycle lanes are located and always check before changing lanes or making turns.
