At about 12:30 a.m. the blaze broke out, causing 23 people to evacuate. Firefighters arrived on the scene and alleged that the fire seemed to have began on the first floor in a patio area.

A couple on the second floor was trapped in the building. After breaking a window they were able to escape. The unidentified man suffered second-degree burns and was listed to be in critical condition. The woman endured a laceration to the head.
