Five-Year-Old Boy Killed When Hit by Truck

A five-year-old boy was killed in an accident when he apparently ran into oncoming traffic and was struck by a work truck in Berkeley, California Friday afternoon, according to police.

The boy was traveling to an after-school program with a group of children from nearby Le Conte Elementary school when he darted into traffic at the intersection of Warring and Derby in Berkeley at about 1:45 p.m., according to Berkeley police. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the work truck immediately stopped at the scene when he realized that the accident had occurred, and is cooperating with authorities and the Berkeley police who are investigating the accident.
