Former Nebraskan Senator Found Dead on Farm

A former Nebraska state senator was killed Saturday, September 5, after getting caught in a piece of farm equipment called a haybuster.

Former Senator Ron Raikes was found on his farm lying underneath his haybuster by a neighbor. An investigation is ongoing to determine exactly how Raikes got caught underneath the grinder.

Raikes was pronounced dead at the scene by the emergency medical services crews that responded. An autopsy is being conducted.

The former senator was well-known for his role in shaping Nebraska’s education.
