Hit And Run Driver Critically Injures Cyclist

A female competitive cyclist remains in critical condition after she was struck by a hit and run driver on Highway 9 in Saratoga, California, on Sunday.

A member of the Alto Velo cycling team, Ashley Jackson, 24, was riding with her coach and her boyfriend along Highway 9 when she was struck from behind by silver BMW at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

According to Jackson’s boyfriend, David Nelson, the vehicle’s mirror clipped Jackson and she fell from her bicycle. Jackson was transported to Valley Medical Center in San Jose where she is in critical condition suffering from head trauma including bleeding to her brain.

Nelson sustained minor injuries in the accident.

Police are searching for the driver of the BMW, which allegedly slowed for a moment before speeding away.
