Man Crushed by Forklift at Landfill
A man was killed when a forklift fell onto him at the Miramar Landfill, in San Diego, California Friday afternoon, authorities said.
The 45-year-old man was attempting to unload a forklift from the large Penske moving truck he had rented to help him in relocating his business.
The accident occurred just before 1 p.m. at the Miramar Landfill on Convoy Street near state Route 52. The man was backing the forklift over the tailgate at the recycling center at the dump, when it tipped over. He attempted to hold to forklift upright but was unsuccessful. The machine toppled onto him, crushing his skull, fire spokesman Maurice Luque said.
He was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced a short time later.
His name has not been released, pending family notification. The accident is under investigation.
