Man Killed in Accident at Power Plant Construction Site

A worker was killed Tuesday in an accident at a power plant that was under construction near Weston, Missouri, just north of Kansas City.

Vatthana Vongtheva, 28, of Emporia, Kansas was employed by Team Industrial Services of Alvin, Texas and was working at the construction site at the Iatan 2 power plant. Vongtheva was inspecting equipment inside a boiler on an elevated scaffold when the accident occurred, according to Kansas City Power & Light officials. Vongtheva became pinned against the boiler wall and suffered fatal injuries in the accident, which is still under investigation.

The accident did not involve Kansas City Power & Light’s operating power plant, Iatan 1, which was the site of a fatal accident last May when a crane collapsed on a worker, and injured three others.
