Man Killed in Las Vegas Construction Accident

A worker was killed in a construction accident at the new international terminal project at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada Monday morning.

An employee of the Las Vegas Paving Corp. suffered from fatal injuries in an accident when he was run over by a compact motorized earth moving shovel, shortly after 11 a.m. Monday, according to airport and fire officials.

The man, identified as a 25-year-old from Hawaii, was working on a ditch at the terminal roadways site when the operator of the Bobcat shovel lost control of the machine and ran the worker over, said Joe Taylor, a representative of the Laborer Union’s Labor Management Fund.

The man was transported to a Las Vegas hospital where he died a short time later.

It has not been determined what caused the operator to lose control of the machine. The accident is being investigated by the Nevada Occupational Safety & Health Administration.
