Man Killed in Motorcycle Accident During Chase
A man was killed in a motorcycle accident Friday afternoon in Horizon City, Texas.
The man has been identified by sheriff officials Saturday as Juan Enrique Ortega, 18, of Horizon City, according to an El Paso County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
Ortega was driving his 2008 Suzuki GSX-R at a high rate of speed when a deputy attempted to catch up to him in Horizon City. According to sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Jesse Tovar, Ortega, attempting to outrun the deputy, failed to round a curve, which caused his motorcycle to slide on its side, hit a curb, and then slam into a wall at the intersection of the 15300 block of S. Kenazo Ave. and the 400 block of Lauren St. at approximately 2:30 p.m. Friday.
Ortega was not wearing a helmet when the accident occurred and was transported to Thomason Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short while later. Ortega did not have a driver’s license or motorcycle endorsement, Tovar said.
