Man Killed in Two-Vehicle Accident

A man was killed when he was hit by a pickup truck while attempting to cross Highway 69 near Nederland, Texas early Wednesday afternoon.

Richard Mouton, 55, from Port Arthur, was attempting to cross Highway 69 when he was hit by a Dodge Ram pickup truck heading northbound on the highway, said Sergeant Chuck Havard with the Texas Department of Public Safety. The accident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 69 north of Spurlock Road.

Mouton was airlifted by Southeast Texas Air Rescue helicopter to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth where he was pronounced dead at approximately 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The driver of the Dodge Ram did not suffer any injuries in the accident, said Sgt. Havard. A driver of a different pickup swerved around the collision and received non life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital.
