A man succumbed to his injuries Tuesday morning after a head-on collision in West Shreveport.

The 21-year-old driver of a Ford Ranger crossed the median on Shirley Frances Road and slammed into an 18-wheeler around 7:20 a.m.

The driver, and sole occupant, of the truck was flown to LSU Hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead, said police.

The driver of the 18-wheeler did not suffer any injuries.  The driver told police he had just pulled out into the roadway and straightened his vehicle out in the eastbound lane of Shirley Francis when he noticed the Ford crossing into his lane. The driver of the 18-wheeler explained he saw the truck cross into his lane and was able to come to a complete stop before the collision.
