Michigan Man Killed in Train-Pedestrian Collision
A man was killed as he attempted to cross the train tracks of an oncoming Amtrak train near downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan Wednesday afternoon.
David Waller, 47, of Kalamazoo, was hit and killed by a train while he was attempting to cross the tracks near Lovell Street and West Michigan Avenue, according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.
According to witnesses, the crossing arms were activated, red lights were flashing, bells were ringing, and the conductor blew his horn when the accident occurred around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday.
Witnesses said it seemed as if Waller was attempting to run faster to beat the train. He was thrown about 25 feet after he was struck and pronounced dead at the accident scene.
This incident marks the second fatal train-pedestrian accident in Kalamazoo County in two months.
Authorities believe the incident was an accident but the investigation is continuing.
