Missouri Highway Accidents Result in Multiple Deaths

Separate fatal automobile accidents took the lives of two Sikeston, Missouri residents and another man in Wayne County, Missouri on Tuesday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the first fatal crash occurred at around 9:15 a.m. A 1998 Ford F150, driven by Paul D. Glaus, 66, of Sikeston, was attempting to make a left-hand turn on U.S. 61 when he pulled into the path, and was hit by, a 1993 Freightliner driven by Tony A. McCoy, 41, of Portageville. The Freightliner was passing the Ford moments before the crash, which took place 3 miles south of Sikeston.

Glaus was transported by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, where he was declared dead at 11:45 a.m. The passenger in the Ford, Matthew L. Marshall, 27, of Sikeston, was treated for serious injuries. Neither Glaus nor Marshall were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. McCoy suffered from minor injuries

Later Tuesday evening, Leigh A. Brashear, 31, of Sikeston, was walking on Route AA 1 mile south of Miner, Mo., when a 2001 Dodge truck driven by Randy J. Marks, 44, of Sikeston, passed a slow-moving vehicle and struck Brashear. The accident happened at about 7:30 p.m. Brashear was declared dead at the scene of the accident by New Madrid County coroner Jimmy McFadden at 8:27 p.m.

Also on Tuesday, Roy J. Nunnery, 54, from Hiram, was killed when his vehicle left the roadway of Route C, two miles south of Highway 34 in Wayne County, and overturned, finally striking a tree at about 6:30 p.m. Nunnery was ejected from the vehicle and he was declared dead at the scene of the crash.

From the beginning of 2009 to Tuesday evening a total of nine people have been killed in accidents on Missouri highways.
