An accident involving two unlicensed drivers resulted in eight people hospitalized, and one dead, in Southeast Austin, Texas.

The collision occurred at approximately 1 p.m. in the 11000 block of FM 812. According to authorities, responding emergency crews at the accident scene initially believed one of the women in one of the vehicles had already died.

“It was believed that one of the occupants of a vehicle was deceased,” said Millie Zapata with Austin Travis County EMS. “They actually turned the patient over and the patient spontaneously took a breath and then medic crews went ahead and intimbated that patient, backboarded her and loaded her on to Starflight.”

Eight other people suffered injuries in the two-vehicle collision, including four young children. It is unknown if the children were fastened in their car seats at the time of the accident, said authorities. The accident is under investigation.
