A pedestrian was fatally hit on the Metra Northwest line near Palatine in Chicago, Illinois, this morning. Trains are being delayed because of the accident.
A 39-year-old male was walking around the pedestrian gates at about 6 a.m. Friday, which were lowered on the North side of the tracks at Plum Grove Road, when he was his by the train en route to Ogilvie Transportation Center in Chicago, with a scheduled arrival of 7:02 a.m.
The man was killed immediately on impact. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending family notification, police said.
The train stopped near the Palatine train station due to the pedestrian incident and the intersections of Palatine Road and Plum Grove were closed for approximately two hours. Trains are expected to operate 15 to 30 minutes behind schedule, said Metra officials.
The incident remains under investigation by the Palatine Police and the Metra Railroad Police.
