Rock Possible Cause of Fatal Accident

A rock may be the cause of a fatal one-vehicle accident on SR-82 Wednesday in Lee County, Florida.

Wilder Bedoya, 47, was driving his pickup truck eastbound on SR-82 around 8 a.m. when he swerved off the road and over a small canal before landing in a wooded area near Homestead Road.

Deputies believe that a rock had hit and broke through the windshield, striking Bedoya in the head which caused him to lose consciousness and swerve from the roadway.

When deputies responded to the scene, they found Bedoya unconscious in the truck with a large cut on his forehead. Bedoya was flown to Lee Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead Thursday.

Deputies are not sure where the rock came from, whether it was laying in the road or if it fell from another vehicle. It is not suspected that foul play was involved, said Deputies.
