Sledding Accident Kills Young Girl
A young girl was killed when her snow tube hit a tree at a golf course just outside New York City on Monday, said police.
Aleyris Martinez, 13, of West Haverstraw, was in an inflatable tube with her friend sliding down a steep and popular snow-covered hill when they both crashed into a tree at the Philip J. Rotella Golf Course in Haverstraw, N.Y.
Martinez went into cardiac arrest after the crash and paramedics, who were called at about 2 p.m., attempted to treat her at the scene. She was rushed to the hospital in Suffern, but doctors could not revive her and she was pronounced dead.
“She was unconscious and in very grave condition when we got there,” said Ray Florida, executive director of Rockland Paramedic Services.
The other girl, whose name has not been made public, suffered severe head and facial injuries.
It’s so weird. It feels like just yesterday I was talking to Aleyris, my friend, and she is now dead.
