St. Robert Man Killed in Pedestrian Accident

A man was killed in a pedestrian accident early Sunday morning on Missouri Avenue North.

Ben William Schwab, 42, of St. Robert, had already crossed three southbound lanes on Missouri Avenue North and was about to cross northbound lanes when he was struck by a oncoming 1998 Chevrolet pickup driven by Edward Lee Horne Jr., 40, of Dixon around 2:15 a.m. Sunday.

Horne was unable to avoid hitting Schwab.

Schwab suffered serious injuries and was taken to General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital and then transferred to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield where he was pronounced dead.
