Syracuse Man Killed in Accident on I-81

A man was killed when his vehicle ran into a tree off Interstate 81 in Whitney Point Wednesday morning.

The man, from Syracuse, was driving northbound on Interstate 81 when his car drove off the east shoulder and struck a tree about 400 feet off the roadway near mile marker 33 around 8:18 a.m. Wednesday. The car flipped over onto its roof.

The man had to be removed from the vehicle by the Whitney Point and Lisle fire departments and was taken by ambulance to Wilson Regional Medical Center.

The man, whose identity has not been released pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
