Colin Hughes, 16, of Southport, was riding his mountain bike eastbound on Mount Zoar Road when he was struck head-on by a westbound vehicle driven by Martha Beemer, 81, of Pine City just before 9:50 a.m. Sunday.

Beemer had rounded a corner and was unable to avoid the collision.

Hughes was taken to Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira and the transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital where he is listed in guarded condition.

The 13-year-old boy, from Bay City, was bicycling when he was struck by a vehicle driven by an 85-year-old Bay City woman Saturday afternoon.

The boy was taken to Bay Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The car’s driver did not suffer any injuries.

The accident is being investigated by authorities.

Lesbian activist Bonnie Tinker, 61, was bicycling when she was struck and run over by a Mack truck around 4:30 p.m. at the Virginia Tech campus. She was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

Tinker was Director of the Portland, Ore. Love Makes a Family and a member of the Seriously P.O.’d Grannies. Tinker was visiting the campus for a conference with the Religious Society of Friends.

The accident is under investigation.

Edward Pietruszewski, 71, of Depew, was bicycling northbound on Thompson Road when he rode his bicycle into the side of a vehicle stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of Roll Road around 6:45 p.m. Monday.

Pietruszewski was taken to Erie County Medical Center where he remains in intensive care and is being treated for head and facial injuries. He is listed in serious condition.

The accident is under investigation.

New York State Trooper John Gorke, 47, was off-duty riding his bicycle on State Route 20 when he was struck from behind by a westbound 2007 Chevrolet Impala driven by Charles W. Brewer, 20, from Cohocton.

Gorke, a 19-year veteran, was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

The accident is being investigated by the State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit. Charges may be pending.

41-year-old Sandy Lake man, whose name has not been released as of Thursday morning, was riding a Huffy bicycle on Pine Road when his front wheel collapsed, causing him to be thrown over the handlebars and onto the ground one mile south of Atlantic Road at around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The man was airlifted to the hospital to be treated for injuries. His condition has not been released.

Heather Reu, 42, was riding her bicycle on Paseo del Volcan when she was rear-ended by a car driven by Daniel Gomez, 40, near Double Eagle Airport. Reu was killed in the accident.

Gomez initially fled the scene of the accident but returned when he was found by witnesses. Gomez was booked at the Metropolitan Detention Center on charges of leaving the scene of an accident and for having narcotics on him.

The accident is under investigation.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was riding his bicycle northbound on Broadway when he was hit a vehicle turning left into a parking lot around 1:22 p.m.

The man, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries to his head.

The driver of the vehicle, from Vermont, will most likely be charged with failing to yield the right of way.

The accident is under investigation.

Neil Russell Murphy, 66, of Dallas, was riding blue Western Flyer bike in the 1200 block of North Cockrell Hill Road when he was struck from behind by a 1992 four-door Chevrolet around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, according to Dallas police.

Murphy, who had been wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Methodist Dallas Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead Thursday.

The 57-year-old Lake Dallas driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene. No arrest has been made and no charges have been filed.

The accident is under investigation.
