Breanna Furphy, 17, of Pleasanton, was riding an off-road vehicle with a classmate when she was ejected and then struck by the vehicle around 4:20 p.m. near Highway 84, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Steve Creel.

Furphy was transported to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley and then transferred to Stanford Medical Hosptial for treatment of upper body trauma.

The off-road vehicle had no seatbelts or doors. The accident is under investigation.

A 19-year-old male of Daly City was driving the 1997 Mitsubishi with a 19-year-old female of Pittsburg and a 10-month-old male infant westbound on Highway 24 when the driver lost control of the vehicle west of Acalanes Road and overturned several times before coming to a rest on its roof, said the California Highway Patrol.

The three occupants were transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. The infant was not injured and was later released to his grandmother.

It is unknown why the accident occurred.

The bus was traveling along U.S. 101 in Soledad when the vehicle overturned on a highway overpass and fell 60 to 70 feet to the street below. At least three people, including the American driver, were ejected from the bus, according to California Highway Patrol spokesman Brian Wiest.

Three victims were pronounced dead at the accident scene and two were confirmed dead at hospitals. Their identities have not been released.

The bus was carrying 36 people, 34 of which were French tourists, a Canadian tour guide, and the American bus driver, who was involved in a fatal accident in 2005.

George Luis Bastidas, 26, of San Mateo, was traveling northbound on Interstate 280 when his vehicle drove off the road just south of Alpine Road. The vehicle overturned multiple times, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Bastidas and a 24-year-old female passenger, who were not wearing seatbelts, were ejected from the vehicle.

The female passenger was taken to an area hospital suffering serious injuries. Bastidas was killed in the accident, which occurred at about 11:25 p.m. Friday.

Bastidas was identified by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office Monday.
The accident is under investigation.

The woman was driving a Ford Focus westbound on Highway 156 when her vehicle crossed the center line and traveled in the eastbound lanes at Meridian Road around 8 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The woman attempted to stop her vehicle but slammed head-on with an oncoming tractor-trailer. The vehicle then ran into an embankment off the roadway.

The woman was transported by helicopter to San Jose Regional Medical Center suffering serious injuries.

Highway 156 was closed for several hours after oil from the tractor-trailer was spilled on the highway.

When California Highway Patrol officers responded to the accident scene around 11:45 p.m. Friday, the motorcycle was recovered but the driver was no where to be found.

The next day at about 11 a.m. Saturday, a Fairfield woman reported her husband missing and two CHP units and an aircraft were dispatched to the area of the motorcycle accident.

The body of the husband was found in thick brush a substantial distance from the area where the motorcycle had previously been found, said officers.

It is not believed that alcohol was a factor in the crash. California Highway Patrol officers are investigating the accident.

The 43-year-old man from Mission Hills, whose identity has not been released, was traveling in his pickup truck eastbound on 210 Freeway when he apparently lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn and roll down an embankment, according to the California Highway Patrol.

As the truck rolled down the embankment, it traveled “through a security fence and onto Foothill Boulevard,” where it came to rest on its roof just west of Paxton Street, the CHP said. The driver was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

The accident occurred around 1:45 a.m. The accident is under investigation.

A Foothill Transit bus, which was carrying no passengers, was involved in a collision with a vehicle on the 210 Freeway. The initial crash caused a chain reaction involving eight different vehicles, including two trucks that spilled debris onto the roadway. According to fire officials, four people suffered injuries and one was critically injured in the accident. A medevac chopper landed on the freeway to attend to the injured. Two people were killed in the accident.

Traffic was halted throughout the San Gabriel Valley and on Foothill Boulevard. The eastbound 210 was closed for several hours before it was reopened around 3:10 p.m., said the CHP.

The man was identified as 50-year-old Gregory Moore, of Stockton.

Moore, an employee of Bay City Construction, was working with a team to rebuild Highway 99 near Atwater when he was knocked down and then run over by a tractor after he had bent down to pick up some debris. Moore was run over by the tractor’s three tires and lost feeling in his feet immediately, said Cal Fire Battalion Chief Ed Banks

Moore was pronounced dead at a hospital in Modesto, according to Merced County Sheriff’s spokesman Tom MacKenzie.

The accident occurred at about 9:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Cochran was traveling northbound on Interstate 680 in a 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck when he possibly hit the center median which caused him to cross the lanes of traffic and drive off the Andrade Road off-ramp, running into a tree, according to Officer Steve Creel.

The accident occurred at about 9:25 a.m.

Officers are investigating what may have caused the accident, including a possible medical condition which may have been a factor in the crash. It does not seem that weather was a factor, Creel said.
