The 26-year-old man was killed when a wall fell on him and the other victims while they were pouring cement.

Medial crews rushed the injured to a nearby hospital. The three surviving workers were reported to be in serious condition.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the fatal accident.

The 48-year-old Garden City man, an employee of Schreiber Roofing, was working at the site of the new C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital when a heavy load of roofing material fell on him, according to police spokeswoman Diane Brown.

The man, whose name has not been released until family has been notified of the death, was transported to the University of Michigan Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The accident is under investigation.

Julio Salabarria, 66, was working at a construction site in the 7200 block of North Kendall Drive when he was crushed by the end of a concrete pump that was connected to a crane used to pour concrete at about 9 a.m.

Salabarria was working at the site where condominiums and businesses are being built across the street from the Dadeland Mall.

Miami-Dade detectives and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the fatal accident.

Eugene Hakes, 33, of Cadott, an employee of A-1 Excavating for 5 years, was in a trench cutting a water pipe when the large, gasoline-powered cut-saw kicked back and slashed his throat at about 8:30 a.m.

No one witnessed the accident, but when coworkers saw Hakes holding his throat they called 911.

Hakes was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Terry Pecha, the president of A-1 Excavating said this incident was the first fatal accident in company history.

The accident is under investigation.

Elevator technician James C. Higgins, 51, and another worker were at the bottom of an elevator shaft attempting to prepare the elevator so that workers could remove furniture from the hotel when the accident occurred around 8 a.m. Monday, according to Columbus Division of Fire Battalion Chief Dave Whiting.

The elevator they were working on fell down the shaft, killing Higgins. It is not known if the incident was due to mechanical or human error, said Whiting.

Higgins was an employee of Oracle Elevator for three years and was working on converting the former Holiday Inn into a dormitory.

The accident is being investigated by the Columbus Division of Police.

Randy Gardner, 46, of Baxter, Tennessee, was working at the Rockies Express Pipeline construction site when a wooden mat that was being used to hold construction equipment fell on him.

Gardner was taken to an Indianapolis hospital, about 35 miles from Omer, where he later died, according to Sheehan Construction spokesman Leonard Pataki.

State officials are investigating the accident.

The finished pipeline will carry natural gas from Colorado to Ohio.

The man, whose identity has not been released pending family notification, was attempting to free a tractor-trailer carrying concrete pipes from the mud by hooking a chain from the trailer to a bulldozer

The driver of the trailer did not see the man behind it and reversed the truck. The man was run over and as pronounced dead at the scene.

Berkeley County Coroner Glenn Rhoad said the accident happened just after 8 a.m. Wednesday.

After investigating the incident, the death has been ruled accidental.

Vatthana Vongtheva, 28, of Emporia, Kansas was employed by Team Industrial Services of Alvin, Texas and was working at the construction site at the Iatan 2 power plant. Vongtheva was inspecting equipment inside a boiler on an elevated scaffold when the accident occurred, according to Kansas City Power & Light officials. Vongtheva became pinned against the boiler wall and suffered fatal injuries in the accident, which is still under investigation.

The accident did not involve Kansas City Power & Light’s operating power plant, Iatan 1, which was the site of a fatal accident last May when a crane collapsed on a worker, and injured three others.

The victim, an employee of a subcontractor, died following a boiler accident at the construction site. According to the utility’s spokesperson, Katie McDonald, the accident occurred at about 5:45 a.m. Monday inside the plant’s boiler.

What caused the accident has not yet been determined. No other workers were injured in the accident. The construction site was closed for the rest of the day and workers were let off after the accident.

The Platte County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident as an unattended death.

The man was identified as 50-year-old Gregory Moore, of Stockton.

Moore, an employee of Bay City Construction, was working with a team to rebuild Highway 99 near Atwater when he was knocked down and then run over by a tractor after he had bent down to pick up some debris. Moore was run over by the tractor’s three tires and lost feeling in his feet immediately, said Cal Fire Battalion Chief Ed Banks

Moore was pronounced dead at a hospital in Modesto, according to Merced County Sheriff’s spokesman Tom MacKenzie.

The accident occurred at about 9:45 a.m. Wednesday.
