According to police, 42-year-old Steven Eldridge of Pennyan was attempting to bypass the tractor with his car when he struck the side of a minivan driving the opposite direction. The van then crashed into the tractor.   

Medical teams along with helicopters and 10 ambulances arrived on the scene. Eight people were rushed to the hospital and more injuries could have not been reported. Five people were unable to survive the crash.

Eldridge was arrested after the accident and is facing charges for reckless driving, driving while under the influence, and five counts of criminally negligent homicide.

Police are still investigating.

Wayne Chilson is recovering at the St. Paul Regions Hospital after being knocked off of his tractor by a tree branch, which placed him directly in the path of the machine that then ran over him.

Medical crews and Wisconsin police arrived on the scene around 12:30 p.m. where they transported Chilson to the hospital by helicopter.

His condition is reported to be improving.

Elmer Hultquist was attempting to remove some trees when the tractor he was operating rolled over backwards and landed on top of him. He had tied some rope to the trees and was backing the tractor up trying to extract them when the accident occurred.  

Medical crews and police arrived on the scene, where Hultquist was pronounced as dead.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the fatal incident.

A 49-year-old New York man was killed Saturday after getting trapped under a bobcat tractor.

A passerby noticed Nicholas Venetz and contacted the police then tried to free him. Venetz was stuck between the frame and the arms of the tractor.

Apparently, the tractor wasn’t working and Venetz leaned out to see what had gone wrong. He accidentally pushed on the pedal that raises the bucket and compresses the arms of the tractor.

When the police arrived Venetz was announced dead at the scene.

Police had found a flat tire on one of the rears wheel on the bobcat, which was the reason for it being stagnant.

Caleb Coxwell, 11, was riding a tractor that was pulling a bush hog when the tractor hit a small tree around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at a farm on County Road 87 near the intersection of Franklin County Road 78 in the Tharptown Community.

Coxwell fell off the tractor and was run over by the bus hog before the driver could stop. Coxwell was killed in the accident.

Zachary Bushman, 9, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, was riding a hay trailer as it was being pulled by a tractor on a northern Cache County farm when he jumped off and was run over by the front tire around 8 p.m. July 7.

Bushman was taken to Logan Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The tractor was being pulled by family member Craig Munk.

Leo McDyer, 65, was riding a tractor in order to haul dirt in a farm eight miles northwest of Rock Valley Sunday when it started to slide on loose gravel and the tractor overturned. McDyer was thrown off the tractor and pinned underneath it. He suffered fatal injuries.

A friend staying with McDyer discovered his body.

William Bresler, 58, of rural Stoutsville, was operating a tractor pulling a bush hog through a farm along Winchester Southern Road, south of Heigel Road near the Fairfield County line, when the tractor drove into a hole. Bresler was thrown from the machine and then run over by the tractor and bush hog in the 4:50 p.m. accident.

Bresler was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Elmer Ray Willoughby, 81, of Brandon, climbed off his tractor to open a gate at his Rankin County home when the tractor rolled over him, said Sheriff Ronnie Pennington.

While the tractor’s engine was shut off, apparently the brake wasn’t set which caused the tractor to roll forward, over Willoughby.

Willoughby was killed in the accident.

Leonard Papiernik, 71, a longtime employee of Berry Tree Farm, was working when his tractor overturned in a dry ditch and trapped him underneath.

Papiernik was killed in the accident, which occurred in Arenac County’s Clayton Township near the village of Sterling, approximately 30 miles from Bay City, Michigan.

An autopsy is planned.
