James Murphy, 19, was driving southbound in Dubuque Saturday when he failed to yield to a westbound pickup truck and was struck broadside.

Murphy was killed in the accident. A female passenger in his vehicle and the driver and passenger of the pickup truck were all transported to area hospitals for treatment.

The accident is under investigation.

Ed Rudolph, 68, was driving a 2005 Acura in eastern Wyoming when he was struck by a GMC Suburban that had swerved to avoid a deer. Rudolph and his wife, Gwen, were both killed in the accident.

The driver of the Suburban, Daniel Wahlen, 52, and passenger Dani Elenga, 47, were also killed.

Rudolph was on the 1960, 1964 and 1968 U.S. Olympic teams.

Roy D. Watkins, 70, was attempting to make a turn from Route 50 into Biggie’s Restaurant when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle driven by Shawn Nestor.

Watkins, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nestor was transported to Grafton City Hospital. His condition has not been released.

The accident is being investigated by State Police.

John Heaton III, 45, of Wheaton Road, was traveling eastbound on Whisconier Road when he veered into oncoming traffic and struck a westbound vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle was taken to Danbury Hospital for neck and back pain.

Heaton was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to drive in the proper lane and distracted driving while committing a moving violation.

Jermaine Finley was driving a vehicle on Interstate 29 when passenger John Wakefield asked Finley to pull over near Onawa. When Wakefield got out of the vehicle he was struck by a semitrailer.

Wakefield, of Sioux City, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Finley fled the accident scene. He was charged Wednesday with leaving the scene of a fatal accident, stopping in the travel portion of the road, no driver’s license and making a false report to a law enforcement officer.

Finley was booked in the Woodbury County jail in Sioux City.

A vehicle was traveling southbound on Highway 17 when the driver lost control and crossed the center line, striking a northbound vehicle around 9:10 a.m. near Laurel Road, about halfway between Santa Cruz and the Summit.

The impact caused the vehicles to spin apart and come to a rest in both the northbound and southbound lanes, closing the highway for over an hour.

Two people were trapped inside their vehicles. One person was airlifted to Stanford Medical Center with major injuries.

A 17-year-old boy from Yankton was driving one of the vehicles westbound on Highway 50 when the accident occurred. He was killed in the accident. A 17-year-old girl in his vehicle and a 16-year-old girl driving the second vehicle, both from Yankton, were transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The victim’s identities have not been released.

Littleton P. Mitchell was traveling in a 2009 Toyota Prius eastbound on Wrangle Hill Road outside Delaware City when he crossed the median and struck a 2008 GMC Savana driven by Richard F. Pilichowski around 3 p.m. Monday.

Both Mitchell and Pilichowski were transported to Christiana Hospital. Mitchell was pronounced dead during surgery for multiple injuries. Pilichowski suffered minor injuries and was treated and released.

Wrangle Hill Road was closed for about three hours.

The accident is under investigation.

Two vehicles were involved in the accident at the intersection of St. Joe Road and Highway 66/Diamond Avenue around 10:00 p.m. Thursday. The cause of the accident is unknown.

The identities of the victims have not been released.

All lanes on Diamond Avenue were closed from ST. Joe to Posey County Road due to the accident.

Joseph Casey, 83, was driving a Toyota Camry on Russell Street when he collided with a Chrysler Sebring driven by Claire Regan, 78, of Woburn, near the intersection of Old Cambridge Road Tuesday afternoon.

Joseph Casey’s wife, Katherine Casey, 84, of Malden, was a passenger in the Camry and was transported to Lahey Clinic in Burlington where she died early Wednesday morning.

Regan was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital suffering from serious injuries.

The accident is under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
