A 17-year-old boy remains missing after a boating accident, which had already killed a mother and her daughter, off the coast of South Carolina’s Sandy Island Wednesday night, said an official Thursday.

A police official said the unidentified teenager was with five of his family members aboard a 14-foot fiberglass boat that sank Wednesday night in Waccamaw River, killing a mother and her daughter, The Sun News newspaper in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

It appears that none of the passengers on the sunken boat were wearing life jackets at the time of the accident, said Sheriff Lane Cribb of the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.

Cribb said in addition to the teenager’s disappearance and the two deaths, an unidentified woman and a 9-month-old baby were hospitalized after the boat accident. The condition of the injured victims has not been reported.

The accident is under investigation.
