Teenager Injured in Bicycle Accident

A teenager suffered injuries in a bicycle accident Sunday morning in the town of Southport.

Colin Hughes, 16, of Southport, was riding his mountain bike eastbound on Mount Zoar Road when he was struck head-on by a westbound vehicle driven by Martha Beemer, 81, of Pine City just before 9:50 a.m. Sunday.

Beemer had rounded a corner and was unable to avoid the collision.

Hughes was taken to Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira and the transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital where he is listed in guarded condition.
