Three-Car Collision Results in Two Hospitilizations
A three-car accident occurred Tuesday afternoon around 1:12 p.m. at the intersection of Route 202 and River Avenue in Readington, New Jersey, resulting in two people being taken to hospitals.
Engels Mayorga, 30, of Scotch Plains failed to slow down when traffic was stopped at red light at the intersection, said Township police. Mayorga then collided with a vehicle driven by Mehdi Bassalian, 60, of Great Neck, N.Y., which then collided with a third vehicle driven by Joann Russell, 49, of Franklin, Somerset County.
Mayorga lost consciousness and suffered from internal injuries in result of the accident and was flown by the state police medevac helicopter to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, police said. Bassalian suffered back and neck pain and was taken by the Flemington-Raritan Rescue Squad to Hunterdon Medical Center, police said. Russell declined medical treatment though she reported pain in her back, police said.
Southbound Route 202 was temporarily closed following the accident.
