Three in Hospital After Head-On Collision
A head-on collision in West Jordan, Utah resulted in three people in the hospital in critical condition Tuesday.
A 19-year-old man was traveling southbound in a Ford Mustang on State Road 111 around 7000 South around 5:30 p.m. when the car swerved across the center line and collided into a Jeep Cherokee towing a trailer, stated Salt Lake County sheriff’s Lt. Don Hutson. A man and woman, both 30, and their 5-year-old son were traveling in the Cherokee.
The driver of the Mustang was trapped inside when the vehicle caught fire, Hutson said. Another motorist stopped at the scene and put out the flames with a fire extinguisher.
The couple in the Cherokee was airlifted to University Hospital, and the 19-year-old was airlifted to Intermountain Medical Center. All are suffering from life-threatening injuries but are expected to survive, said Hutson.
The 5-year-old was airlifted to Primary Children’s Medical Center in serious condition, Hutson said.
It is unknown where the victims were from or if they were wearing seatbelts.
Witnesses reported that the driver of the Mustang seemed to be distracted while he was driving just before the accident. The accident is being investigated.
