Three Killed in Explosive Tractor Trailer Accident

Three people were killed in an explosive accident involving three tractor trailers and one passenger vehicle on Interstate 81 in Virginia.

One of the tractor trailers hauling a corrosive agent struck a median near mile marker 284 and ran into another tractor trailer, resulting in an explosion that killed three people at about 11:30 p.m. Monday night, said Virginia State Police.

The accident caused forced evacuations to multiple Woodstock area residents while the area is cleared and decontaminated, said officials with the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Department.

Vehicles are being diverted from Interstate 81 by deputies. It is not known how long it will take for the road to be cleared.

The accident is being investigated.
