Truck Driver Killed in Interstate 80 Accident

A San Jose, California man was killed in a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 80 Monday morning.

The man was driving a 2002 Toyota Tacoma traveling westbound on Interstate 80 when it is believed he may have fallen asleep and drove off the road onto a dirt shoulder and crossed the guardrail. The vehicle was launched into a ravine and was airborne for over 88 feet before overturning and coming to a rest at about 6:40 a.m. Monday, according to a California Highway Patrol press release.

The truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from the Truckee Fire Protection District.
