A 34-vehicle pile-up on Interstate 69 just northeast of Indianapolis, Indiana resulted in the deaths of at least two people Tuesday morning.

The crash, involving 28 passenger vehicles, five semis and one Fishers fire engine, happened after 9 a.m. Tuesday near mile marker 8 just south of the State Road 238 said Indiana State Police.

Of the 34-veicles, two people were found dead inside one vehicle, 11 people were taken to hospitals, at least three vehicles had passengers trapped inside and 5 five people had minor injuries but refused treatment.

“Our goal is to take care of the injured and get them taken care of and take care of the non-injured drivers out of the elements. They did arrange for Hamilton Southeastern school buses to come to the scene and transport those drivers back to a facility at the Fishers Police Department,” said ISP Sgt. Anthony Emery.

Over 50 first responders, including three tactical response vehicles, were dispatched to the scene from Fishers and surrounding communities.

Accident reconstruction experts are at the accident scene to try to determine what caused the pile-up.
