Two Seperate Fatal Accidents in Long Beach
Rain may have played a role in the death of two people in two separate auto accidents in Long Beach, California Friday morning, authorities said.
Humberto Sanchez, 27, of Downey, was traveling eastbound on 2nd Street at about 2 a.m. when his 2001 Lincoln swerved off the bridge, crashing through metal guardrails on the side of the 2nd Street Bridge. The Lincoln fell dozens of feet and landed on its roof on Appian Way, according to a statement from the Long Beach Police Department. Sanchez was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
“The car veered off of the bridge and broke through the barricade,” according to spokeswoman Lisa Massacani.
Less than two hours later, a 23-year-old man from Wilmington was traveling westbound on Pacific Coast Highway near Caspian Avenue when his 1995 Ford Mustang swerved to the right and collided into a street light pole. He too was pronounced dead at the scene, Massacani said.
The accidents are being investigated, but it is believed that rain may have played a role.
