Woman Killed in Snowmobile Accident, Mother Injured
A woman was killed in a snowmobile accident while riding with her family in the Black Hills of South Dakota Sunday morning.
Joyce Carle, 66, of Fort Dodge, was driving a snowmobile with her daughter and passenger, Tracy Van De Pol, 40, of Ankeny, Sunday morning. The two had traveled off the trail and the snowmobile collided into a tree, according to a Lawrence County sheriff’s office news release.
Van De Pol was killed in the collision. Carle was airlifted to Rapid City Regional Hospital with serious injuries.
Van De Pol and Carle were traveling with other family members but no one else was involved or injured in the accident.
It is not believed that speed or alcohol was involved in the accident, which is under investigation.
