Worker and Officer Break Legs in Demolition Accident

A demolition worker suffered serious injuries when an Irving commercial building he was working at fell on him Tuesday afternoon. A police officer also suffered injuries as he worked to rescue the victim.

The worker, whose identity has not been released, was inside the building collecting copper wiring when a bulldozer accident ran into the building at 215 E. Airport Freeway around 2 p.m. Tuesday. The impact caused the building to collapse on the worker, who suffered two broken legs in the accident when he was pinned under debris.

An Irving patrol officer, whose identity has not been released, suffered a broken leg as he attempted to reach the trapped worker.

The worker was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas and the officer was transported to Baylor Medical Center at Irving.
