A construction worker for RPM Construction was fatally crushed on site at the Microsoft campus in Redmond, Washington Thursday morning.

The man, in his mid-30s, sustained immense head injuries when thousands of pounds of rebar toppled onto him in the 9:45 a.m. accident at the Microsoft campus, located at 4480 154th Place Northeast, according to Jim Bove, Redmond police spokesman.

The man had been attempted to set a rebar form, which had just been released from a crane, into concrete when it fell onto him, stated Bove.
“The crane operator is devastated,” Bove said. “He witnessed the whole thing.”

Other workers performed CPR on the victim but he was pronounced dead at the accident site. His name has not been released.

All work at the site has been stopped while the death is investigated by investigators from the State Department of Labor and Industries, who were at the scene this morning as is standard procedure any time a person is killed on the job, said L&I spokeswoman Elaine Fischer.

“Our role is to assess what happened and determine whether the workplace-safety regulations were being followed,” Fischer said.
