A young girl was killed Friday night in Anne Arundel County when she was hit by a car while bicycling.

Ashley Nicole Meyers, 14, of Pasadena was attempting to cross Ritchie Highway near Hamburg Street in Pasadena when she was hit by a 1999 Nissan Sentra driving northbound at 5:47 p.m. The driver of the vehicle Katherine Marie Brooks, 30, of Dundalk, will not be charged in the accident because investigators decided that the teenager was partly in fault, according to police.

Meyers was attempting to cross a part of Ritchie Highway that was not “designed, marked or engineered as a pedestrian crossing,” said police. While she was crossing the roadway she cut between two cars in the right-hand lane, where she was hit by Brooks’ vehicle. Meyers was also wearing dark clothing and did not have lights on her bicycle, police said.

Meyers was transported to Baltimore Washington Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at 6:25 p.m., police said.
